VEDIVAZHIPADU MALAYALAM MOVIE REVIEW & RATTING

After a lot of controversial posters, teasers and tag line, Vedivazhipadu came out with an A certificate from the censor board. The name itself created a curiosity among audience. The tagline of the movie "Moralists please bear with us" was intended to question the pseudo morality of Malayali folk. Young director Shambu Purushothaman succeeded in creating all his hoopla over  his debut flick but not that much success in depicting his genuine thoughts in the most interesting pattern. Had it  been filmed in a bit more convincing and meaningful way, the movie would have been worth a fine watch.
The movie portrays just two days in two hours. It starts a day before Attukal Pongala and ends at the final segment of Pongala. Story moves  mainly through the life of three couples- Pradeep (Sreejith Ravi), a share market business man and his wife Vidya (Mythili), a French tutor, Sanjay (Saiju Kurup), a bank employee, and  his wife Reshmi (Anusree), a channel reporter, and  Rahul (Murali Gopi), a computer game tester and , his wife Radhika (Anjana Menon) is a home maker. Joseph (Indrajith) an investment broker is another important character of the movie.
On the day of Attukal Pongala Pradeep, Rahul and Sanjay joins to make their day memorable with alcohol and a woman. Sumithra (Anumol) plays the role of the sex worker who was invited to Rahul's house by the three in the absence of their better halves.  Vidya make a visit to Joseph's house for Pongala, Reshmi was busy with the shoot of Attukal Pongala for her channel and Radhika went for the Pongala. What happens to the three of them and their wives forms the rest of the movie.
Even if the narration has nothing new, the movie seems sensible with it's interesting backdrops. Double meaning jokes that are in plenty are but well received by the audience with applause in the theatre and arises an uncertainty about the way tastes are moulded by new generation movie makers. The whole cast and crew did justice to their roles but none were extra ordinary. Hats off to Anumol for her willingness to take up such a role.
An extra ordinary part of the movie was the way Attukal Pongala's ambiance was recorded live which must receive applauds. Shahnad Jalal's camera work was impressive especially the Pongala visuals. Bijibals background score was but plain and unsatisfactory. A couple of sub plots in the movie which handles long distant relationships, sincerity and sexual harassment went well in the movie.
"Vedivazhipadu" though after setting a fine premise loses its momentum after a while , when all sort of clichs associated with adventures of these types follows. Intervention of some spiritual powers and the purpose of highlighting the use of blue colour were ambiguous. The question is the reason of a holy ritual and thereby affecting the feelings of religious groups, to convey such a storyline which could be portrayed in any other manner. In spite of the controversies, the movie can be labelled as a "come and enjoy" one.
