THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state anti-piracy cell (APC) is all set to take on popular music file sharing site, www.123musiq.com, for copyright violation. S Rafeek, the deputy superintendent of APC, said a case would be filed against the owner of the website.
The DySP said www.123musiq.com was one of the most popular websites among music lovers in the country when it comes to downloading the latest film music. But till now APC had not taken any action against it as it was being operated from Mumbai and no complaints had been filed against it. However, Satyam Audios , one of the leading music producers in Indian film industry, has now filed a formal complaint against the site.
The website has in store songs from all vernacular movies. It also has a huge collection of independent pop albums produced in India, Pakistan, etc. Songs of the vintage era are also available. The website's
Its most attractive feature is that all songs come for free, and users do not need to register to download songs.
"The site has songs of several Malayalam movies that are still under production. We are specifically probing the availability of pirated Malayalam songs on the website," said Rafeek, who also said it was for the first time that the state APC had been taking action against music piracy.
On Monday, the APC also summoned one of the owners of the website, www.punchapadam.com, another popular Malayalam music sharing website. A case was registered by the APC last Friday against the website. The owner, a 28-year-old IT professional from Perumbavoor in Ernakulam,
He was let off after his statement was recorded, said Rafeek. The APC has also registered cases against three websites that have been uploading pirated versions of Malayalam movies on the internet. The sites, desitorrentz.com, malluvision.com and moviejockey.com were under surveillance for the past several months. These sites
had continued to upload movies despite several warnings, Rafeek said.
